“Lost” in the Twilight Zone

J.J. Abrams has long professed his love of “The Twilight Zone” and, while he didn’t write this week’s episode, you knew this had to have his stamp of approval.

Creator Damon Lindelof has said that some characters only exist to serve other characters, and that seems to be the fate of Nikki and Paulo.

On one hand, we had the little “Zone” homage about how this wicked couple pays dearly for their crimes. On the other, we have another view of the events that have unfolded since the crash.

But what I thought was the most significant scene was between Ben and Juliet in the hatch, monitoring Jack and plotting how to get Jack to do the surgery on Ben.

Paulo knew that Jack, Kate and Sawyer would be kidnapped by The Others. Interesting.

Nikki stumbles out of the jungle, falling down in front of Sawyer and Hurley

In any event, the episode ended in typical “Twilight Zone” fashion with the two getting buried alive – a just punishment for two murderers.

And now we’ll find out how Sawyer, and Charlie, will pay for their role in kidnapping Sun after Charlie confessed all to Sun.

Sun slaps Sawyer after finding out he is the one who kidnapped her.

Next week, Sawyer gets slapped with the reality of being selfish, while Kate and Juliet spend some quality time together.

The week after, Jack returns to the Lost tribe and brings Juliet with him.

I don’t trust Juliet, and I think she’s still playing a game on Jack with the help of Ben. But maybe that’s just me.

Let’s discuss.

The episode was great for the average fan who may be a bit confused by the entire Lost “mystique”. It introduced the back story and closed it out in the same episode…like tv used to be. Sun slapped Sawyer but let Charlie off the hook almost entirely, Sawyer will go back in like an hour for the diamonds and find a gasping Nikki and Paulo (total TZ theme to the entire show and I loved it). We now know why Paulo was in the bathroom in the Pearl…and uttered the annoying line “the bathroom still works”. So Ben and Juliet plotted to get Jack to do the surgery…no kidding. He finds what people hold dear and uses it against them..again thanks for the news flash.

So there is a magic “box” that makes anything you want appear, Locke is special but not so special he was on the “list”, I am with Sue…Juliet is playing Jack all the way. I am guessing the “others” monitored Benry when he was in the Swan but we still have not acknowledged the medical hatch where Claire birthed Aaron so the time for that has probably passed hasn’t it?

Overall I loved the episode and can’t wait for next week…this statement can pretty much be repeated every week.

Oh and what the hell happened to Heroes?? Some unannounced 3 or 4 week absence? That does NOT make me happy!!

I agree with Will’s comments above. Although my first reaction after that episode was, “What did that have to do with anything?” But isn’t that the typical reaction to some things on Lost? 😉 I don’t know what to make of Juliet these days. I *want* to like her, but something feels wrong about it. And I want Jack to stop being an idiot and thinking that his agreement is going to be honored. Locke seems to be the key to everything. I wonder who his Watchmen equivalent is, eh Sue?

Will: Heroes is on a five-week hiatus, but I think it’s coming back soon. They announced the break after the last episode that aired.
