McSteamy rises on “Grey’s Anatomy”

The final moments on “Grey’s Anatomy” tonight may have been some of the sweetest ever.

After deciding he needed to come clean with wife Addison about his sizzling prom sex with Meredith, the rather smug Derek tracked Addison down to her hotel room.

He sat on the bed, telling the sensual Addison _ who was wearing nothing but a bathrobe _ that he wanted a divorce. And just when he was at the height of his condescending speech about the sadness of their relationship ending, out walks McSteamy wrapping a towel around his waist.

Yes, the magnificent Dr. Mark Sloan, played by San Francisco native Eric Dane, is back by popular demand.

We’re wondering what lies in store for McDreamy after Patrick Dempsey told TV critics during a set tour last summer that he thought the men on “Grey’s” were emasculated and needed to man up a bit.

We don’t think creator Shonda Rimes took kindly to those remarks.

In any case, there were campaigns to bring Eric’s character back as a love interest _ even if it was with Meredith.

OK, maybe it was just my campaign.

But Eric’s one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, and after his performance last season he certainly deserved more screen time on one of my favorite shows.

So tonight, when he walked half-naked out of a steaming bathroom, we knew it was game on time for McDreamy.

Who may just find himself McSingle.

Anatomy of Grey’s

My husband claims my mind is a junkyard of information, so welcome to my lot.

During a set visit in July to “Grey’s Anatomy,” Kate Walsh, who plays McDreamy’s wife Addison, said that the triangle will be resolved quickly this season.

Does that mean that we’ll get to see more of McSteamy (Eric Dane), Derek’s best friend who got caught in bed with Addison? We can only dream.

Also during the set visit Patrick “Dr. McDreamy” Dempsey was grousing a bit about how the men are, well, a little emasculated on the show. He said something about wanting the characters to man up a little. These aren’t direct quotes, but you get the point.

We don’t really see that happening.

When researching a story I wrote about “Grey’s Anatomy,” there were so many wonderful quotes from the show that just made me realize how much I love it. One source was Grey’s Anatomy Insider.

But for word straight from the source, check out Shonda Rhimes blog

Shonda talks about Thursday’s season premiere and what we can expect. Including the fact that she wants us to take a look at the first episode (come on, all true fans have the DVD set) and see the payoffs for those who have been paying attention in the third season premiere.

It’s all good.

And even though Denny is dead, the actor who played him Jeffrey Dean Morgan is alive and kicking _ and set to play a major role in Rhimes’ new series about journalists.

Katie Couric, embrace your inner fashionista

I’m getting a little tired of Katie Couric having to defend herself for having a sharp fashion sense.

Guess what people? You can be a serious journalist and rock the runway.

Unlike ABC’s Charlie Gibson, who prides himself on wearing “whatever is on the left when I reach into the closet,” La Couric always looks chic. As a person who generally picks out what I’m going to wear based on if I did laundry the night before, I admire that.

When she debuted on Tuesday, Katie looked smashing in her little white jacket and black dress. She showed off the legs a bit too much, however, to ever win the respect of hard news junkies. When she went for the pre-taped interview with the New York Times guy, the camera kept going back for the gam-shot.

Even Charlie Gibson could be distracting if he put on a pair of shorts to do an interview.

Of course, that might make for a more interesting broadcast.

“Lost” candy

Oh, those wacky “Lost” people.

Today, an Apollo candy bar came in the mail from the Apollo Candy Company. Which is, of course, a subsidiary of The Hanso Group.

Stay with us.

As “Losties” all know, Hanso is behind the whole island experiments. Don’t tell us Hanso’s the evil empire. They saved the Apollo Candy Company from financial ruin.

The first Apollo Bars were distributed in San Francisco, but this is the last place to get the bars. They will be distributed on Sept. 20.

For people who want to get some free chocolate, and trust me it’s pretty yummy, and go to the official site and find out when the free giveaways will happen in your hometown.

And, as always, for more information on The Hanso Foundation, visit www.thehansofoundation.org.

Checking Out “Grey’s Anatomy”

Nothing better than getting on the set of “Grey’s Anatomy” and immediately bumping into Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Patrick Dempsey (Derek “Dr. McDreamy” Shepherd) and Emmy nominee Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang).

So, Ellen, after having your way with the very married Dr. McDreamy in the season finale, just who else might you bed?

“No one is safe,” she says smiling wickedly. “All cute boys beware.”

(We’re still pushing for a return of Eric Dane, who played the guy who almost broke up McDreamy’s marriage. Although McDreamy seems to be doing just fine all on his own now.)

As for McDreamy, or rather Dempsey, he says that the two things fans always say to him are “My mother loves you” and “Who are you picking?”

They are referring, of course, to whether the good-in-bed doctor will choose Meredith or his wife, played by San Jose native Kate Walsh.
“Well, I can tell you that the triangle gets resolved rather quickly,” says Walsh, who looks as if she’s still part of the cast. Perhaps she gives McDreamy his come-uppance finally and she can get back to that dishy Eric Dane.

Seeming every bit as socially awkward as her straightforward character, Oh watched as the critics taking the tour of the set rushed her co-stars.

“No one is going to want to talk to me, are they?” she said, looking nervously at me.

No worries. It didn’t take long for folks to zone in on her.

Sitting in a remote spot on the set was Sara Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres on the show. She says she was picked to join the show after she was seen in the Broadway smash hit “Monty Python’s Spamalot.”

“They came to me, although I don’t know what about my over-the-top performance (as Lady of the Lake) said orthopedic surgeon to them,” says Ramirez, who won a Tony for her role.

Heche still crazy?

You would have thought journalists would pounce on the chance to ask Anne “I think I’m an alien” Heche if she was a bit more grounded these days.

Instead, when Heche showed up at the summer TV press tour to pump up interest in her ABC series “Men in Trees,” there was more curiosity in raccoons.

The series, with Heche as a self-help guru who just got dumped by her boyfriend after she arrives for a gig in Alaska, has a lot of wildlife.

Turns out the raccoon Elvis has a dog as a stunt double. And he sleeps at night. And they wake him up to go to work.

Finally, a reporter stumbled out a question about her mentally unstable past, saying something like is she now…

“Sane?” asked Heche.

Heche says she’s now very blessed, although she still has some quirks. Like covering her ears and do the LA-LA-LA whenever anyone asked about where the series was going.

“Anne doesn’t want to hear about what’s happening in the future,” explained creator Jenny Bicks, like this was perfectly reasonable behavior.

Later, when asked if anyone could relate to Heche’s character, she quipped, “Clearly, I never used a life coach.”

“Lost” 2.5

“Lost” producer Bryan Burk doesn’t want you to think of this coming fall season of “Lost” as season 3.

“It’s more like ‘Lost’ 2.5,” Burk says. “This fall is like a miniseries, then in the spring you’ll have season three.”

ABC announced today that the series would be coming back for only six episodes on Oct. 4, then do a “Sopranos” disappearance until 2007.

Taking the “Lost” slot will be a “Groundhog Day”-like drama starring Taye Diggs as a guy reliving each day while trying to prevent his girlfriend from being murdered in “Day Break.”

Then “Lost” comes back for a spring run that would not include any reruns.

“There’s going to be more romance on the series this season,” promises ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson. “The only note I give that show is character-character-character because I believe that’s what brings people back.”

Burk says to expect more issues addressed and, of course, what the heck becomes of Sawyer, Jack and Kate left in the hands of The Others and the tribe back home trying to cope without their leader Jack.

And let’s not forget those guys sitting in the artic monitoring some activity.

“Yeah. What’s up with that?” says Burk.

Well, at least we know where the polar bear came from.

Feeling Lost?

Let’s chat about the best Web sites for “Lost” fans _ and if you’ve had a chance to read “Bad Twin.”

It’s not like hanging with Hurley, but at least it’s something to bide the time before “Lost” comes back on the air.

Gibson named new ABC anchor

Charles Gibsonwill take over the reins at ABC’s World News Tonight”beginning Monday, May 29.

The nightly news has had a bad run lately. First, anchor Peter Jennings left the desk after discovering he had lung cancer in April 2005. He died last August.

Bob Woodruff and Elizabeth Vargasofficially took over the anchor duties in January. Later that month, while covering the war in Iraq, Woodruff was seriously injured in an attack. He’s recovering, but won’t be returning to work in the near future. Then Vargas announced she was going to have another baby and would be out on maternity leave.

When Vargas returns, she won’t be going back to the anchor desk. Instead, she will limit herself to the “20/20” anchor desk and doing specials.

My doctors have asked that I cut back on my schedule considerably. What works best for me and my family is to return in the fall to ’20/20′ as I raise my new baby and young son,” Vargas says. “The broadcast needs someone who can give 150 percent day in and day out. I am not in a position to give that right now and it wouldn’t be fair to do any less.”

Gibson will continue as a co-anchor of “Good Morning America” until June 30.
