Tyra Stale?

What’s up with America’s Next Top Model?

There has always been criticism about the the models being, well, not quite high fashion quality. But this season seems particularly weak in the selection.

I thought the teen twins choice was just a lark, but when Tyra started raving about how great they were, you just had to wonder.

And Tyra’s big drama scene where she acts like a diva went on for twice as long as it should have. We get it. Go model.

This first episode was in the can before the writer’s strike, and written by Oakland’s Kai Bowe. We’ll have to see how the season progresses once the shows start airing without the writers at the helm.

“ANTM” debuted on the new CW network, which rose from the ashes of the old WB and UPN networks. Tyra and the girls delivered big numbers for the new network, which is great. Despite its flaws as a place to find real modeling talent, it’s still a nice little reality wallow.

Jay Manuel

In July, I saw Jay Manuel up close, and he is taller than any model on the show, and much better looking. In fact, he may be one of the most beautiful men on TV.

And a good sport.

When I mocked the horse-prancing step of the models and ask just WHAT that was about, he laughed.

“You have to make yourself stand out,” Jay says.

Just can’t imagine what the next step might be then.

No way, not stale! I diggin’ the new season of ANTM so far. I do think Tyra’s diva act went on a lil too long too but whatever, she’s bored. 🙂 My current fave Top Model girls are the twins and Caridee. They had the best photos in the end, I think.

Oh, no! Not the twins. Anyone but the twins…
OK, so one of them did a great barfy photo, so I’ll wait and see how they do next week.

Agreed. What happened to this show? Apparently the numerous amounts of “cycles” havent really produced a real significant model. Is Naima on the cover of Vogue? Is Eva gracing the pages of Elle? – if they have been on there, then I havent seen them. What’s going on here? This show used to be so much fun, now it has just become a bland reality show….however….I really do like watching those photoshoots! And Ms. J is still funny to me….other than that,…the potential “models” in this cycle are really annoying. Are they in it for the modeling? or are they in it for the F-list reality show fame?

I was so down on the twins when they made the top 12. But after seeing their pictures last week and this, I’m not so sure. I think they’re pretty/ugly, like, er, actual models. And they’re tall enough. (For god’s sake! Models are tall! OK? The fact that you’re required to be tall and skinny is simply one of the job requirements. Like having good hair if you work at a fashion magazine, aHEM, ugly Betty.)

So, the twins! Who knew I would love them?

(Although, now that their hair is red they both look EXACTLY like Conan O’Brian. Really. Look for it.)

What’s the scoop on the writers’ strike? I’m concerned for them.
